Profile Information

I am a:
Performing Artist, Researcher
My school is:
My style(s) of music:
Choral, Classical, Film, Folk, Indie, Rock, Sacred
I am interested in:
Composing / Arranging, Ethnomusicology, Film Scoring / Soundtracks, Music History, Music Theory, Performing, Recording / Producing / Engineering, Songwriting / Writing Lyrics
My musical instrument(s):
Electric Bass, Guitar, Piano / keyboard, Voice, Other
My other musical interests, styles, and instruments are:
I'm interested in virtually everything about music, especially music cognition. I hope to study that in grad school. I've been writing songs since I was rather young, and composing for the last year or so. I would like to transition into composing more film music in the near future. In addition to the standard guitar/piano/voice experience, I also enjoy playing the mandolin and tin whistle.
My favorite artists, influences, and inspirations are:
My influences are all over the place. The Celtic folk music I listened to as a child has had tremendous influence on how I compose for guitar, and my background as a songwriter has influenced a passion for melody in my instrumental compositions. My favorite artists are Switchfoot/Jon Foreman/Fiction Family, Anberlin, and NEEDTOBREATHE, and my biggest compositional influences are Erik Satie, Frederic Chopin, and Trace Bundy (among many others.)
More about me:
I came late to the musical game in a lot of ways. I grew up as a homeschooler in Northern Africa and the Middle East, and my options for music education were a bit slim. Because of that, I was primarily self-taught until college. I've worked my way up from the bottom of the ladder, and though I still have far to go, I'm not giving up on my dreams for the future.

Now that the sentimental part is over, I currently work as an assistant audio engineer for a recording studio. Another area in which I still have a lot to learn. In my free time, I enjoy songwriting, concerts, and, yes, researching music and the brain.

“Nashville is like a country-themed Vegas,” remarked one performer sitting sidestage at the Acoustic Nation stage at this year’s Summer NAMM. “It’s great!” Her feelings seemed to match the sentiments of everyone there, including the winners of the Songwriters Sessions LIVE! Contest, hosted in June by Acoustic Nation and SongTownUSA. There were six winners, and I was lucky enough to be one of them.

I had entered my song "Home" into the contest on a whim and figured I wouldn’t…

Sounds good. I'm going to be busy today (Friday), but I think I should be able to get some ideas to you later tonight. Otherwise I'm free all weekend.

Hey Ken, good to know there are others with the same dual interests as me. We are a rare breed, but you already know that. Yeah your Bio makes you sound very interesting. Nice to meet you!

I'm transferring from my community college and will probably be majoring in classical guitar, along with, yes Biology because I've done so much prereq for it.
