The activity: Post a song that reminds you of home. The results are below!

From Cynthia Smith:

This has always been my "home" song. When I lived in NYC, on the rare occasion that I was having a "dying to be home" moment, this would be my internal soundtrack until I got over it. Even as I sit here in a local NC coffee shop, this song can make me nostalgic for my home...

From Sue Landis:

I grew up in Bethlehem PA, and this song always reminds me of home. When it came out, the people of Bethlehem and Allentown were not thrilled because the song points to the decline of the steel industry. However, I'm happy to say that the old Bethlehem Steel has become the home of a new performing arts center!

From Aaron Siegel:

New York is a place that thrives on people who make things happen, no matter what the obstacles. This video by Feist is the kind of low-budget and low-tech (but high energy!) art that New York is known for.

From Yasmin de Soiza:

I've posted Sting's "Englishman in New York". I think it is such an interesting song in that Sting used different musical styles & instruments to portray the storyline of an Englishman in New York. Here are some examples of the different styles used:

If you look closely, there are some shots of Carnegie Hall in the video!!

From Jonathon Hampton:

Since you already covered my hometown of Chicago, let's head to the other end of the country to where I lived in California for two years. Here's the classic ballad, "I Left My Heart in San Francisco."

From Chris Amos:

Here is Bruce Springsteen's "Streets of Philadelphia," from the film Philadelphia. New York is home to me now, but I went to college in Philadelphia and lived there for about 15 years. The "Sweet Home Chicago" video above reminded me of this Philadelphia video, because almost all of the footage is shot on the streets, in parts of the city that most tourists do not get to see.

What song reminds you of home?

For as long as there have been cities, people have been writing songs about them. What song reminds you of your own city, or another city in your country? Embed the video and tell us what in the music reminds you of that place. Is it the lyrics? The style of music? We will feature your posts on Musical Exchange next week.

Here’s a song about going home to the great American city Chicago, Illinois, the blues song “Home Sweet Chicago” by Robert Johnson. Not only is it about Chicago, it is also a classic example of the Chicago blues style.

What song reminds you of a city or town in your country?

Remember, you only have 5 days to complete this, so hurry!
