Go ahead and check out my video. I'll wait here...

All set? Great. So here's me:

I'm your community manager, so feel free to reach out for whatever you need. In addition to working at Carnegie Hall in Educational Media and Technology, I also perform as an alto, tenor and bass. I'm classically trained but also have a soul and gospel background from growing up in Chicago. Since graduating from Cornell University in 2004, I've performed with choirs throughout the San Francisco Bay and New York City areas. I live in New York now and conduct and perform with several choirs. I often do solo work singing African-American spirituals, chamber opera, jazz, and musical theater. With over twenty years of performing experience, I've been lucky to work with folks like Dmitri Hvorostovky, Kathleen Battle, Jessye Norman, Chanticleer, and Seiji Ozawa. You're up next!

Profile Information

I am a:
Teacher, Performing Artist, Administrator, Researcher
My school is:
Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute
My style(s) of music:
Blues, Choral, Classical, Folk, Gospel, Hip-Hop, Indie, Jazz, Opera, Rhythm and Blues, Rock, Sacred, Traditional
I am interested in:
Composing / Arranging, Conducting, Ethnomusicology, Making Music Videos, Multimedia Projects, Music History, Music Theory, Performing, Recording / Producing / Engineering, Songwriting / Writing Lyrics
My musical instrument(s):
Guitar, Piano / keyboard, Voice
My other musical interests, styles, and instruments are:
Medieval and Renaissance. Yup, that includes chant, polyphonic mass settings, and all the great stuff in between. I've been singing choral music since 2nd grade, so it's in my bones, and I love how it makes me and the audience feel. It's beautiful, unique, and challenging, and that's called good music making!

I'm also big on traditional African-American spirituals. I perform and teach about a variety of them, many arranged by Harry T. Burleigh. It hits home with my ethnic identity and just plain feels good to sing. I also feel it's a very important history to share and keep listeners aware of.

I play a tiny bit of piano and guitar as well but definitely don't practice enough!
My favorite artists, influences, and inspirations are:
The Jazzheads: Nat "King" Cole, Bobby McFerrin, Frank Sinatra,

The Choral Geeks: Thomas Tallis, Tomas Luis de Victoria, William Byrd, Josquin de Prez
More about me:
I'm here to meet great new musicians and help you however you might need.

Thanks Jonathan! I'm so excited to be playing at Carnegie Hall in April 2014! We don't have set pieces yet, but probably Hungarian Dance, Souvenir de Florence, and either Dvorak or Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings plus other chamber string pieces!
