A Dream to Be The Next Inspiring Choral Composer

Posted on May 29, 2012 at 8:30pm 1 Comment

Hello, all! My name is Britlin, and my greatest passion in this life is to write music.

My compositions (performed) so far have been my Fate and Faith Songs (Two Movements: A Twist of Fate, You Give Me Faith) for Women's Choir with piano. I was given the opportunity to have this performed last year, and this year, a college choir director chose it for her Spring Concert program.

I recently completed my first full choir piece for SSAATTBB a cappella, titled: The Silver Lining.…

More about me:
I've performed at Carnegie Hall with the DCINY Eric Whitacre Choir, first in the Paradise Lost NYC premiere as a choir angel, and second, in "This Shining Night", celebrating the music of Whitacre and Morten Lauridsen. Eric's Virtual Choir was inspired by a video I uploaded to YouTube years ago, as a thank you video to him for inspiring me. I am humbly grateful for this connection to Eric, and the thousands of participants in the virtual choir.

I am going to school to advance myself as a composer, and have had several pieces (choral) performed so far, thanks to the opportunities I've received at the collegiate level. My dream is to become an established composer in the choral world and in film.

hi brittlin! jonathan pointed me to your work and i just listened to phosphenes and the reading of silver lining.  i'm impressed by the range of genres your playing with, and given your ambition to score films, this will surely prove very useful for you.  given your range of work, i'd love for you to join 'Voices Around the World,' the project i'm leading (you can join through the ME homepage) and hear your thoughts on the videos we are posting.

I'd love to check out the song for the sopranos if it's sacred. Also the spiritual you did a while ago. I have a small group of 10 youngsters, so it sounds like a good fit. Mind attaching it to a blog post with a description, maybe an audio track too, if you have it?

What other choral pieces are you working on? I'm looking for a treble spiritual with optional treble or tenor/bari solo. Thoughts?

Hi Britlin. Welcome to the community. Thanks for jumping right in. I love your posts, and am sure they'll spark some good questions and conversation in the Composing group. I'm also a choral scholar, so let me know if I can help at all.

Simple Ways - Original song

"Very cool. You could even to the "Tell Me/you" chorus twice before going on to verse 2 and, later, the bridge, but it works as is too. You could re-record this with a couple bars intro, and with overdubbing yourself in harmony on the last…"
