My musical instrument(s):

More about me:
My father is in the British Armed Forces so as a child, and still now, I moved all around, never staying at one place for more than three years. My parents decided it was best for me to go to boarding school for my secondary education to allow for continuity, and I have grown to love it as an escape, and an alternative place to live. It almost allows me to have two mindsets.
At age nine I first picked up a flute, had lessons at school, and at age eleven I got a distinction in grade 5 which I was pretty happy with! I took my grade eight (and got a distinction) aged fifteen and am now trying to fit in a diploma around my A level studies, which is proving.... interesting. I also am taking grade seven piano this month (wish me luck, I'll need it!) and am hopefully doing grade eight singing this coming academic year.
Everyone applauds me as a flautist and somewhat frustratingly seems to 'forget' about my other instruments, but what I have discovered is that my talent seems to lie in playing flute, but my passion most definitely is with singing. Musicals enthrall me in a way that nothing ever really has done before.
I was too shy to audition for the school production of Little Shop of Horrors, and consequently became increasingly jealous of my friend, who was playing Seymour. I wanted in! So when one of the Ronettes lost her voice, my friend got me in as a helper/understudy - just in case. as my luck had it, I became the general understudy, learnt the production like the back of my hand and actually understudied for the role of Audrey more than anyone else, which was an opportunity I loved. Unfortunately I did not get to perform on the night, but the whole experience was something that really sparked an appetite for more, and I received some very unexpected praise from quite a few members of staff which delighted me.
I also happen to be very academic and thought (without consulting anybody) that I wasn't 'allowed' to want to pursue arts, that I 'had' to strive for Oxford and Cambridge.
But that isn't the case. I hope very much to get onto a musical theatre course after my A levels and pursue a career in the West End. That is the ideal. We'll see how everything goes, bearing in mind, mental as I am, that I am NOT a natural actor and love dance but haven't had any formal training since I was seven. But dreams are for pursuing, right?

Hello! I'm back after a little break (woopsie...) but I've been writing some songs! They're pretty simple, one on my ukulele (I LOVE my ukulele, it sounds so cool!) and two on guitar. Here they are, I hope you like them!…

The Hanging Tree

Posted on August 22, 2012 at 12:30pm 0 Comments

I've literally just posted a video of a tune I came up with for the song The Hanging Tree which is featured in The Hunger Games books. It's what ran through my head when I first read the lyrics on the page. I turned it into a bit of a round as well, to add some interest. I recorded it with my Singstar microphones, my electric keyboard and Audacity on my laptop. Hope you like it! xxx…
