The Somewhere Project

This season, in celebration of Carnegie Hall’s 125th anniversary, the Weill Music Institute is launching The Somewhere Project, a citywide exploration of West Side Story. This unique creative learning project will engage people through events in all five boroughs of New York City, anchored by a large-scale production of West Side Story. We invite you to participate through investigating West Side Story as a musical, engaging in dialogue about the important questions that it challenges us to encounter, and through sharing your own creative work and ideas! Visit the Somewhere Project homepage on Carnegie Hall's website to learn more about the exciting work happening around New York City, and explore the project's companion course to particiapte from your home community!

Hi, Everyone! Here is a blog post from our fellow Musical Exchange member, Brittany Bigelow, who is on tour right now with the show 42ND STREET. I thought this was such a great post. Brittany talks about some of the things about tour life that you wouldn't really think about until you are there. It is a great peek inside what it is really like!! THANKS Brittany!

IT'S TONY DAY, GUYS!!! I am proud to announce that on my website, www.JonahVerdon.com, I will be streaming the American Theatre Wing's LIVE, UNCUT feeds from the Press Room and the Red Carpet - and what that means for you is you will have access to the real behind-the-scenes footage as the events of the night are unfolding in the Press Room. Feeds begin at 5:00 p.m.! I am in NYC to put together a special TONYs edition of MAKING IT HAPPEN! So look out for that later this month. In the meantime, WHO WILL BE WATCHING TONIGHT? WHOSE PERFORMANCE ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO? AND WHO ARE YOU ROOTING FOR??

Hi Guys - today I am posting a MAKING IT HAPPEN with Mike Visceglia. He has a crazy impressive resume as a bassist touring with big name pop & rock acts all over the world - he is my first interviewee who is not a musical theatre stage performer. He works on Broadway playing in the band at KINKY BOOTS! He happened to get this gig after a very different career. And he's just a cool guy to talk with!!! Enjoy!!

The latest MAKING IT HAPPEN is with Broadway caricature artist, SQUIGS! Squigs is a performer who started drawing caricatures as closing night gifts, and it turned into a GREAT way to keep his career in the arts going - he splits his time sketching and performing!! You can see him next at Paper Mill Playhouse in Broadway bound CAN-CAN!

Happy Tuesday! Today the MAKING IT HAPPEN is with Emerson Steele, from VIOLET!! Emerson played Young Violet, which is the younger version of Sutton Foster's title character. She received tons of recognition for her work in the show, she had an amazing time, and she is only 14!!

Hi Guys - SO…this next MAKING IT HAPPEN is with Ari Groover, who made her Broadway debut in HOLLER IF YA HEAR ME. I am really sad that this show closed on Broadway (17 previews and 38 performances) - I saw it and it was really a moving show. PLUS how awesome to have an original musical with the music of Tupac, a totally new kind of musical than I have seen so far. I hope you love this episode!!
